Welcome to Year 5 - Croeso i Flwyddyn Pump!
A happy new year to you all. We hope you had enjoyed a reinvigorating winter holiday with some all-important family time. A jam-packed Spring term lies ahead of us: an important time of the school year and one that will be both challenging and rewarding in equal measure. This busy time will require pupils to make the right choices and reaffirm their commitment to the school’s values of ‘Respect, Truth, Trust, Compassion, Friendship and Responsibility’ both inside and outside of the classroom.
Following our foray into Victorian life, we delve into our imaginations and discover the enchanting world of Potions, Myths and Legends / Chwedlau, Hud a Lledrith (a topic name created by the pupils) where we will bring together a small pinch of material changes in science; a dash of the mysterious Mabinogion; a sprinkling of the mathematical worlds of geometry, measurements and currency; not forgetting a giant helping of fantastic literature including the Nowhere Emporium and the Alchemist’s Letter.
Welsh and Welshness is an important element of this term’s plans, with the school Eisteddfod taking place, Diwrnod Santes Dwynwen on 25th January as well as Diwrnod Miwsig Cymru (a day for Welsh-language music) on 7th February. These enriching events will prepare our pupils for their much-anticipated trip to Llangrannog in May and is an important part of Wales’ commitment to creating 1 million Welsh speakers by 2050.
Mrs Rees will be now be teaching science on Thursday afternoons, while PE sessions will move remain on Wednesday afternoons with Mr Smith. Please do ensure your child has suitable kit in school on this day and be sure to provide the school with any new medical details and medicines if necessary.
As always, if you would like to discuss anything or in person, please call the school to arrange a suitable time.
