Welcome to Year 6W - Croeso i Flwyddyn Chwech
Croeso! Welcome to 6W's webpage. Here you will find information about the wonderful comings and goings of our class. We will share our learning, important information and upcoming events here. Please make sure you call back for updates :) The children have had a fantastic start to Year 6.
Autumn Term in Year 6 is always very busy, with lots of work to be completed! Our topics this term are called 'Space Exploration' and 'Blitz and Pieces'. Within Space, we will look at the planets in our Solar System and how they differ. We will focus on night and day and time phases and the phases of the moon. Within the 'Blitz and Pieces' topic, we will be looking at WW2; with a particular focus on how it impacted on life in Wales, evacuations and key events from this time period. The topic map below, will gave further information of the skills we will be covering.
-Mrs Watkins teaches the class on Monday to Thursday and Mrs Rees will be with the class on Fridays.
-Mrs Robinson will be with us every morning.
-This half term the children will have PE on Thursday afternoons and they will need their PE kits for this.
This term we will be focussing on fictional writing and narrative pieces. With a particular focus on descriptive writing and structures.
Written work will be linked to our topics of Space and WW2 and will also be based around class novels being studied.
Pupils will be expected to read at home regularly and to change their books independently when they are ready for a new novel.
Homework will consist of;
-Updated Times Table Rockstar activities.
-A choice of activities from our optional homework task grids (can be found in your child’s homework book and on the class webpage).
- A literacy or numeracy task linked to our week’s learning.
-Homework will be given out every Friday to be brought back to school by Wednesday the following week.
We try not to send too much homework, as we appreciate how precious quality family time is after a day in work, however, we feel it is important to encourage the children to start thinking about the future and preparing for life in Secondary School.
